Description

Clover Ericaceous (Rhododendron, Azalea & Camellia) Compost 75L

Part of the MIX & MATCH Range - Minimum Order for Delivery 12 Bags

Clover Ericaceous Compost is a high-quality, peat-based blend specially formulated for acid loving plants. With its low pH and balanced nutrition, it provides the perfect growing conditions for rhododendrons and azaleas, azaleas camellias, heathers, blueberries, and lime-sensitive hydrangeas, along with many other ericaceous plants that thrive in acidic soil but struggle in alkaline soil.

This specially formulated compost contains essential plant food, trace elements, and a wetting agent. It ensures maximum nutrient availability, promotes strong root development, and helps maintain soil acidity - vital for the long-term health and flowering of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, and other lime-hating species.

The medium to coarse grade peat with optional grit creates an open structure for excellent drainage and aeration. Added wetting agents and base nutrients, combined with trace elements, support vigorous growth. For commercial crop production, controlled release fertiliser or insecticides may be added if required – but are not included as standard in retail bags.

Enhanced with moisture-retaining agents, this compost reduces the need for frequent watering while ensuring consistent hydration for delicate roots. A trusted choice in garden centres, Clover Ericaceous Compost is perfect for pots, containers, borders, and beds when growing rhododendrons and other ericaceous plants.

Clover Multi-Purpose Compost is a peat-based growing medium for all plants. It is suitable for seed sowing, potting-on, containers, hanging baskets, tubs, vegetables, and bedding plants. It’s one of the most versatile composts for both home and professional gardeners.

Yes, Clover Multi-Purpose is an all-purpose compost designed for almost every type of plant. However, for lime-hating plants such as rhododendrons, camellias, and azaleas, we recommend using an ericaceous compost for best results.

Clover Multi-Purpose is peat-based, giving it superior water-holding capacity, root aeration, and consistent performance. Many gardeners prefer it over peat-free options for reliability, though we also stock peat-free alternatives if you want an eco-friendly choice.

Yes, this compost is enriched with nutrients to feed plants for up to 4–6 weeks after planting. For longer-term growth, simply add a liquid or granular fertiliser once the initial feed runs out.

Absolutely. The fine, consistent texture makes it excellent for seed germination and young seedlings. Just follow your seed packet instructions for sowing depth and watering.

Yes. This compost has excellent moisture retention and drainage, making it one of the best composts for hanging baskets, patio tubs, and containers. It helps prevent plants from drying out too quickly, especially in warm weather.

No, it is not certified organic as it contains peat and added fertiliser. If you’re looking for an organic compost, we can recommend suitable peat-free alternatives.
